We caught him a couple of times in Austin at SxSW 2001, and he was just amazing; anyone who hasn't caught him live should really try do so. My wife Val and her friend Cathy caught the Alejandro/Peter Case/Freedy Jonston show in Toronto several years ago, and she still talks about it glowingly; coincidentally, Peter Case is playing here tonight. With Buffalo/Western New York being heavily Democratic, what we hear from opponents to universal health care when it is brought up as working in Canada, Europe, etc., is that patients will lose their freedom of choice, that the wait for medical procedures like surgery are amazingly long and frustrating and that the care just can't be as good as it is with American doctors, whatever the hell that is.
