Byrning Bright

Amazing time at the Songs of David Byrne & Brian Eno Toronto tour stop at Massey Hall last night. My review is up on The Globe & Mail website (bearing roughly the same headline as approximately one-third of all reviews of the tour thus far) (but at least it's accurate) (I wonder if he thought of the "Byrne/burn" pun when he was writing the song?).

Nice review. I went the one of the SF shows -- it was indeed great!

He mentioned that Burning Down The House was performed in SF with a marching band. During the live performance, I mused at how great that arrangement must have been.

Another way of putting that last thought is "how much less good than Talking Heads all the indie bands that sound kinda like Talking Heads are."

the other wonder of the show, for me, was how well the new songs came off; before hearing them live i was having a harder time appreciating ETHWHT than other of his recent discs, such as Look Into the Eyeball. now i'm converted & listening to them anew. another thing is how contemporary & ahead of the curve the old stuff still sounds.
