For reasons I cannot divine, there was an unprecedented spike in Zoilusian traffic on Mon., Feb. 6: 17,914 unique visitors on that one day, which is a bit more than twice the number who pass through here most days. Was it some glitch in the counting software, that made it count everybody twice, or was there some high-profile linkage that day I didn't know about? Please assuage my curiosity.

As long as I'm housekeeping: Woo, there's sure a sweaty testosterone smell in the comments boxes the past week or two. (Former?) female readers, is it something I said? Or is it that other guy's fault?

re: all the young dudes and their insolent moods

the testosterone overload is inevitable, really, when a pissing match over lester bangs erupts from a female-penned destroyer dis.

stay critical or die

p.s. carl, i really dug yr stint on the playlist. that was the best all-around panel i've heard yet on that show.

'Smoldering,' hah. Actually there wasn't a huge traffic spike from the Playlist - but traffic isn't the whole story, since most web traffic is just people coming upon a site for one reason or another and lingering a minute, never to return. If a few dozen people became regular readers thanks to the radio show, that's a more significant thing than several thousand people clicking by for a short visit.

I'd visited zoilus before, but until the National Playlist reminded me, I hadn't visited in a few months (my computer died with all my links and this one slipped through the cracks- sorry!). Also - Carl - you sound appropriately geeky on the radio, more so than your smouldering Globe pic suggests. That's a good thing.

Another question: Was there yet another spike one week later, the first day that this site was mentioned on national CBC radio, as well as mentioned in your profile on the website of The National Playlist?

I've been wondering if I was the only listener to become a regular reader after checking out this site last week.

It's all that "which that rock critic is better" business. Just doesn't appeal to the ladies, so much, though I don't know why. Come to think of it, why the hell aren't there more famous lady music writers? Where is the female Lester Bangs? I'm outraged.

Carl, the time is ripe to turn that Zoilus logo into a click-thru ad for American Apparel!

Theres some linkage in the most recent email fron Merge Records in my inbox. Zoluis is put down as a review for the new Destroyer record.

Saints alive! Y'all don't actually think this has anything to do with Dan Bejar's hot-or-not-ness, do you?

Dude looks HOT on the cover of Fader. Schlumpy? No way.

If you must know, I think it's Ben Brown's fault.

is it all the Destroyer talk? Is Dan Bejar not the, ahem, "chick magnet" I thought him to be????
