Pole Position

Check it out: Just discovered this photo of a mid-1980s band from Warsaw, apparently called Zoilus. According to the caption, they played guitar, drums, sax and vocals, but I have to suspect there's a bassist absent from this pic. And possibly a trumpet player: Notice the T-shirt on background vocalist Ireneusz Biedrzycki, second from left? Sweet. What are the chances of my ever finding one? Never mind one to fit me? As slim, I suspect, as a Polish rocker in 1986.

I'm so happy to know about the feastday! Everybody, party at my house on June 27.

St. Zoilus
Feastday: June 27

Zoilus (d.c. 301) + Martyr of Spain. A young man from Spain executed at Cordoba under Emperor Diocletian (r. 284-305). His relics were enshrined, along with those of nineteen other martyrs, in the Benedictine monastery of San Zoil de Carrion, in Leon province of northem Spain. Feast day: June 27.

re: waistlines. My 2 standard lines are, "I have washtub abs," which people sometimes mishear and ask, incredulously, "Really?" Or, I pat my belly and say, "Experience under my belt." (Not an imperative, but a descriptive phrase.)

St. Zoilus sounds interesting. Will look into it.

Well, thanks, John, but I'm afraid you underestimate my waistline. Sweaters and suit jackets are the deceiver's friends...

As for what the Polish band meant by Zoilus - I've glimpsed references to a "Saint Zoilus" here and there, tho I know nothing about it, so perhaps that's more the allusion from that Catholic enclave...?

just re-read what i hastily wrote -- maybe i should rename my blog "by the way." or perhaps, "excuse me, but . . . "

you WOULD look good in that muscle T.

The question is, are they vibing on the same Zoilus? (Very obscure reference for your blog name, by the way, but I looked it up and it's quite witty.) (You probably had told me what the name means too, but if you had, I had forgotten.)

You'd look good in the muscle T, by the way.

If I were you, I'd be more worried about Sam Bulte leading a campaign against you for copyright infringement.
